What We Do
The Indian Legal Assistance Program provides free legal services to low-income eligible clients with criminal cases in 5 Northeast Minnesota counties, as well as one tribal court, and civil legal services to low-income eligible clients who reside in St. Louis County.

There are four federally recognized tribes that are within our service area:

Criminal Law
We provide criminal defense services to low-income eligible clients, including persons who are charged with petty misdemeanors, misdemeanors, gross misdemeanors, felonies, juvenile delinquencies, and probation/parole violations.
Civil Law
We provide civil legal services on a whole range of civil matters including, among others; evictions, child custody, child protection, dissolutions, etc. to income eligible residents within St. Louis County. These intakes are accepted on a case by case basis. Please be aware that availability for civil legal services at The Indian Legal Assistance Program is limited.
Do you have a court case that you are seeking legal representation for?
To determine whether or not we will be able to assist you, you must complete a new intake form, even if you are a current or previous client of The Indian Legal Assistance Program. If you have a new court case, then a new intake form is required.
